The Kaimkhani Nawabs established Jhunjhunu in the 15th century. The British based the local Shekhawati brigade in Jhunjhunu in the 1830s to halt the activities of the bandits.
Another tale has it that the Pandavas of the epic Mahanharata washed their weapons in the Surya Kund here and thereby got salvation. On the occasion of Bhadrapad Amavasya (month of July-August), hundreds of people throng this place to take a dip in the holy swater.
Ranisatiji Mandir, this temple is one of the ancient pilgrimage sites in the country. The temple is indeed a marvel of construction.
