 The little charming village of Kheechan is situated at a distance of 130 kms from Jodhpur and 5 kms from Phalodi. This is a natural sanctuary to the bird Kurjan or demoiselle cranes. This bird belongs to South Western Europe, Black sea, Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, North and South Africa and Mongolia.
They cover the 5,000-kilometre journey in about two weeks, flying across many international frontiers and soaring over the Himalayas. By November thousands of birds land and for five months Kheechan becomes a ‘crane village’. The villagers took active part in protection of birds and even provide foods to them.
