Nagda India

Nagda is located at a distance of 23 kms away from Udaipur. Originally known as Nagadhara, this city was also the capital of Mewar at one point of time. King Janmenjaya is said to be the founder of this ancient city that is known for its beautiful temples.

The royal house of Mewar ruled over Nagda for seven generations after which the city constantly changed hands. During 13th century, Iltutmish plundered Nagda and almost razed it to the ground.

From the 10th century onwards, the rulers of Nagda started building many temples in and around the city. Many of them are in ruins now, though the most prominent ones have managed to survive.

Sas-Bahu Temples were built in the 10th century and are dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Sas (mother-in-law) temple is larger than the Bahu (daughter-in-law) temple and has an elaborate archway in the front. Known for their intricate architecture, both the temples attract thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year.
