The word ‘tribal’ refers to a segment or division of people, for whatever reason that segment might have originated, have maintained their distinct identity vis-à-vis beliefs, customs, rituals, dressing habits, etc.
Rajasthan as a State is a home to several tribes. The population percentage of tribal communities in the state is almost double that of the national average (12% in Rajasthan). The major tribes in the state are Bhils and the Minas. Smaller tribal communities include Sahariyas, Garasias, Gaduliya Lohars and the Damors.
Other Tribes
While the Gudaliya lohars are considered to be a martial Rajput tribe and are nomadic blacksmiths; the Garasias trace their origin as a small Rajput tribe and are known for the famous Gaur fair. The Sahariyas are of Bhil origin and is the most backward tribe in the State. The Damors trace their origin in Gujarat and are scattered over south eastern Rajasthan.
