Pushkar Camel Fair
Pushkar Camel Fair is undoubtedly one of the most popular festivals in Rajasthan. Held in the tiny town of Pushkar it attracts an incredible three hundred thousand visitors each year. With locals and tourists joining together for a day of fun and entertainment. Originally, the festival was more business orientated and only made available to local camel traders. However, the popularity of this festival quickly rose as tourists were fascinated by the livestock, culture and traditions showcased here. So we can’t really blame the locals of Pushkar for turning it into a huge annual event for everyone to join. It’s a big money-making opportunity for the locals! You will experience camel beauty pageants (the camels are dressed up and shaved), dances, races and other events that are put on to entertain the crowd. Teej Festival, Jaipur
Teej Festival is held in Jaipur (”The Pink City”) which is the largest city in Rajasthan. If you want to experience the best of Indian culture, this festival is for you! It begins in July/August, on the third day of the full moon fortnight. It’s a celebration of the prosperity of crops due to the heavy monsoon season. You will be surrounded by colour, dancing and traditional music. The festival worships the Goddess Teej Mata with dancing, prayers and singing. The women show their devotion to this Teej Mata in the name of love. They show their appreciation of their husbands or future husbands. You will be surrounded by magnificent decorations and lights are this festival. It is hard not to feel a warm buzz as you see all the talent of the people in Rajasthan, whilst celebrating their culture!
